Former Dancing With The Stars contestant Bristol Palin faced a backlash on Twitter after slamming US President Barack Obama's support for gay marriage.
In her blog entry called Hail to the Chiefs - Malia and Sasha Obama, the former vice-presidential hopeful Sarah Palin blasted Obama for allegedly letting his daughters, who have friends with same-sex parents, influence his historic stance on the issue.
'It would've been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends parents are no doubt lovely people, that's not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage,' the 21-year-old single mom wrote.
'Or that – as great as her friends may be – we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home.'
She added: 'Sometimes dads should lead their family in the right ways of thinking.  In this case, it would’ve been nice if the President would’ve been an actual leader and helped shape their thoughts instead of merely reflecting what many teenagers think after one too many episodes of Glee.'
But her comments sparked outrage on Twitter, with followers, including celebrities such as Kathy Griffin, Perez Hilton and Samantha Ronson, tweeting their anger.
'We know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home.' really bristol palin? how's your kid doing?' tweeted Ronson, DJ and former girlfriend of troubled actress Lindsay Lohan.
While Jersey Shore star Jenni Farley (@JWOWW) posted: 'Bristol should keep her uneducated ignorant mouth shut. If Ur living in the past u wouldn't have a kid w/out marriage . It's 2012!'
‏ Gay showbiz blogger Perez Hilton added: 'I think I need to give Bristol Palin a good massage. Girlfriend needs to RELAX!!!'
