Rhode Island - Fort Wetherill State Park

Fort Wetherill State Park in Jamestown, RI was a former US Army base - shore batteries there guarded the mouth of Narragansett Bay against naval attack.

There was also a POW camp there which housed German prisoners.  In the early 60's the US turned the property over to the state of RI.  They have treated it well.  It is one of the most beautiful places in the country, and a fairly well-kept secret.
