In March the hashtag "#tomyunbornchild" trended globally on Twitter.
Most people used the opportunity to be touching, optimistic, hopeful -- human, you might say.
Some saw an avenue to spew homophobic hatred. Without prompting. Without personal threat. Without any sense of decency, people began writing things such as this:
“#ToMyUnbornChild if you so much as think about being a homosexual I’ll
put a bullet in your damn skull,”
“#ToMyUnbornChild if you’re gay… You
will sleep in the oven”
and ....
“#ToMyUnbornChild if you turn out gay, I
will burn you alive.”
Last weekend, writer/director Charlotte Moore had an idea for a PSA -- actual people, with faces, playing soon-to-become parents, and reading some of the tweets. The result is highly effective.
